§  reduced ticket at a cost of 4€

The Vatican Grottoes may be visited free of charge from Monday to Sunday, from 9.00 to 18.00. Guided tours cannot be request, and photography is forbidden during the visit.

To visit the Dome, proceed by elevator to the level of the terrace of the Basilica. The climb to the Dome is on foot and is not assisted by elevator.

Therefore, the visit is not recommended for:

- people suffering from heart problems;

- people suffering from claustrophobia or vertigo;

- people with respiratory problems;

- pregnant women;

- people with reduced or impaired mobility.

Opening hours of the Dome:

Summer period            Opening at    7.30      Closing at    18.00 (in the case of large numbers of people, closure may be around 30 minutes earlier depending on the queue)

Winter period     Opening at     7.30      Closing at    17.00

The self-guided tour service is available from Monday to Sunday from 7.30 to 18.00.

§  full-price ticket including climb by elevator to terrace, plus 320 steps, at a cost of 10€;

§  full-price ticket, climb on foot (551 steps) at a cost of 8€;

§  reduced ticket with climb on foot (551 steps) at a cost of 5€.
