On the morning of Wednesday, April 23, the Office for the Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff announced that, “this Friday, April 25, at 8:00 p.m., in St. Peter’s Basilica, Cardinal Kevin Joseph Farrell, Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, will preside over the rite of the closing of the coffin of the Roman Pontiff Francis, as prescribed in the Ordo Exsequiarum Romani Pontificis (nos. 66–81).”

Likewise, the Office for the Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff noted that the following will participate in the celebration: Cardinal Kevin Joseph Farrell, Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church; Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, Dean of the College of Cardinals; Cardinal Roger Michael Mahony, Cardinal Priest; Cardinal Dominique Mamberti, Cardinal Protodeacon; and Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, Archpriest of the Papal Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican.

Also present will be: Cardinal Pietro Parolin, former Secretary of State; Cardinal Baldassare Reina, Vicar General of His Holiness for the Diocese of Rome; Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, Almoner of His Holiness; Archbishop Edgar Peña Parra, Substitute for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State; Archbishop Ilson de Jesus Montanari, Vice-Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church; Monsignor Leonardo Sapienza, Regent of the Papal Household; the Canons of the Vatican Chapter; the Ordinary Minor Penitentiaries of the Vatican; the Holy Father's secretaries; and other persons admitted by the Master of Pontifical Liturgical Celebrations, Monsignor Diego Ravelli.
