Holy Week Hours

Published here are the timetables of the celebrations that will take place during Holy Week and the variations in the opening and closing times of the Basilica's sites. 

Sunday March 24th

  • 10 a.m. : Commemoration of the Lord's entry into Jerusalem and Holy Mass in St. Peter's Square

The Basilica will remain closed in the morning and will open at the end of the Celebration. The Dome, as well as the Grottoes, will remain closed in the morning and will open at 1pm. 

Thursday March 28th

  • 9.30 a.m. : Chrism Mass in St. Peter's Basilica
  • 6 p.m. : Holy Mass in Coena Domini in St. Peter's Basilica
  • until 10 p.m. Adoration at the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament 

The Basilica will be closed in the morning and will open at noon. The Cuporla will be closed in the morning and will open at 1 pm. 

Saturday March 30th

  • 7.30 p.m.: Easter Vigil on Holy Night in St. Peter's Basilica

The Basilica will be open in the morning and will close early at 1 p.m. The Dome and the Grottoes will close at noon. 

Wednesday March 27th

  • Audience of the Holy Father in St. Peter's Square
  • 8 a.m. : Holy Mass for the employees of the Vatican City State at the Altar of the Cathedra

The Basilica will remain closed in the morning and will open at the end of the Audience, as well as the Vatican Grottoes. The Dome will be closed in the morning and will open at 1pm. 

Friday March 29th

  • 5p.m. : Celebration of the Lord's Passion in St. Peter's Basilica 

The Basilica will be open in the morning and will close early at 1 p.m. The Dome and the Grottoes will close at noon. 

Sunday March 31st 

  • 10 a.m.: Easter Sunday Mass in St. Peter's Square
  • 12 p.m. : Blessing "Urbi et Orbi" from the central Loggia of St. Peter's Basilica

The Basilica will remain closed in the morning and will open at the end of the Celebration. The Grottoes will remain closed in the morning and will open at 1 p.m. The Dome will remain closed all day.
