On Saturday, 20 June, at 4:00 p.m., St. Peter’s Basilica will offer a moment of prayer and meditation through sacred music with the Spiritual Uplift performed by the Choir of the Cappella Musicale Giulia at the Altar of the Chair.
The programme will present a musical journey through centuries of liturgical and choral tradition, offering those present the opportunity to be guided by the beauty of polyphony and by the spiritual recollection that sacred music can inspire.
The pieces scheduled include Sicut cervus by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, a masterpiece of Renaissance polyphony; O sacrum convivium by Giovanni Croce; Ave verum Corpus by Edward Elgar; Ave Maria dolcissima by Cardinal Domenico Bartolucci; Tu es Petrus by Lorenzo Perosi; and Cantate Domino by Théodore Dubois.
The Spiritual Uplift will be entrusted to the Choir of the Cappella Musicale Giulia, the historic musical institution of the Papal Basilica of St. Peter, which for centuries has accompanied liturgical celebrations and preserved a precious tradition of sacred music at the service of prayer.
The event on Saturday, 20 June, will be an opportunity to unite listening, contemplation and faith in the heart of the Vatican Basilica, through a repertoire that evokes the mystery of the Eucharist, Marian devotion and the figure of the Apostle Peter.
