The new exhibition set up at Palazzo Banca d’Alba, featuring the official cast of Michelangelo’s Vatican Pietà, will be open until 1 March 2026. The initiative is part of the celebrations for the 550th anniversary of the birth of Michelangelo Buonarroti, offering the city a significant cultural event.
Presented yesterday, Friday 21 November 2025, the exhibition brings to Alba a faithful reproduction of the renowned marble group preserved in St Peter’s Basilica. It is promoted by Fondazione Banca d’Alba with the patronage of the Fabbrica di San Pietro in Vaticano, the Diocese of Alba and the Ministry of Culture, confirming an institutional collaboration that has grown stronger over the years.
In his inaugural remarks, the President ofFondazione Banca d’Alba, Tino Cornaglia, emphasised the importance of the project:
“With this initiative, we reaffirm our commitment to making culture a shared experience, one that brings people together and strengthens the bond between art, the local area and the community. The exhibition consolidates our collaboration with the Fabbrica di San Pietro in the Vatican and shows how, especially in view of the Christmas season, culture can be a living force for unity and reflection.”
The General Director of Banca d’Alba, Enzo Cazzullo, also expressed his satisfaction, highlighting the institution’s desire to create an opportunity to encounter Michelangelo’s legacy:
“This exhibition is much more than a simple display: it is an invitation to rediscover Michelangelo and a way to share emotions and knowledge. These are values that reflect our identity as a Cooperative Credit Bank.”
During the presentation, Stefano Attili, Head of External Relations and Institutional Affairs of the Fabbrica di San Pietro, recalled the significance of the collaboration:
“The well-established collaboration between the Banca d’Alba Foundation and the Fabbrica di San Pietro stems from the will, already last year, to bring important restorations to the public, such as that of the Madonna della Bocciata. The purpose is to open up, to offer those who might not otherwise have the opportunity the chance to see up close works that would be difficult or nearly impossible to admire. This aims to restore the link between Art and Faith: art as a tool of narration and as a key to understanding the meaning of faith.”
The opening event also featured contributions from Prof. Pietro Zander, Head of the Necropolis and Artistic Heritage Section of the Fabbrica di San Pietro and curator of the exhibition, and Architect Danilo Manassero, responsible for the installation.
