VATICAN CITY, Oct. 4 - St. Peter's Basilica will accompany the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops with daily prayer initiatives. Pilgrims will be able to join in prayer for the Synod at the Masses celebrated in the Basilica and with evening Eucharistic Adoration, to be experienced in the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament on weekdays at 7 p.m. at the end of the assembly sessions. This is intended to offer Synod participants and the faithful the opportunity to gather together in adoration daily at the end of the synod work. On this special occasion the closing time of the Basilica is shifted to 8 p.m.
On Saturday evenings in October, a month especially dedicated to praying the Rosary, prayers will be said for the Synod in the Rosary aux flambeaux at 9 p.m. in St. Peter's Square. Participants in the assembly are invited to take part. The first prayer appointment, on Saturday, Oct. 7, the memory of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Rosary, will be presided over by H.E. Card. Mario Grech, Secretary General of the General Secretariat of the Synod.
During the opening hours of the Basilica, two information points placed at the entrance to the Blessed Sacrament Chapel and at the Chapel of St. Joseph will carry directions for downloading and reading online the texts for personal prayer in the different languages on the St. Peter's Basilica website (www.basilicasanpietro.va).
